IGP Egbedokun ‘Resigned’ to Give Attention to His Family, He Was Not Sacked – Presidency

The Presidency has said that Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, the immediate past Inspector General of Police was not sacked by President Bola Tinubu, explaining that the former police boss volunterarily resigned to enable him give “undivided attention”  to his family.

Speaking to Punch newspaper om Tuesday after President Tinubu appointed AIG Tunde Disu as the new Inspector General of Police, Presidential Spokesman, Bayo Onanuga told the newspaper that  “The IGP resigned in a letter today, citing family issues which require his undivided attention.”

However, several sources indicate that the former IGP was sacked for his ineptitude as Nigeria’s security has taken a sustained nose-dive in the last two years.

Several security challenges, including kidnapping and unabated banditry have been on the increase across Nigeria, while the police and the military have continued to give excuses.

Many parts of Northwest Nigeria, especially Katsina, Sokoto, Kaduna, Zamfara states are under the siege of bandits who now operate freely in the area. Niger, Kwara and Ondo states in the North Central and Southwest respectively are also falling fast into the hands of bandits that daily terrorise residents in the states.
