Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has announced the dissolution of his cabinet with effect from today January 10, 2025.
The governor also announced a valedictory dinner for the outgoing cabinet members that will take place at the Government House Uyo this night.
Announcing the dissolution of the cabinet, Governor said that he was not sacking the commissioners because of non-performance, but to rejig the government for new possibilities.
“For me, if changes were based on non-performance, none of the commissioners would be replaced. All of you have delivered, and that is why the Arise Agenda has succeeded. However, we must conclude one season, begin another, and continue to move forward,” he said.
There have been speculations that the governor was going to make major changes in his government, but no one expected a total dissolution of the cabinet.
In September 2024, during a media chat marking the 37th anniversary of the state the governor had hinted that the cabinet will dissolve the cabinet when he said, As a leader, you must understand when to act and when not to act. I know we should dissolve both the boards and the State Executive Council. Sixteen months into a new administration, you need to rejig the system.”
“We will not do it as a surprise. I will hold a Valedictory Dinner to thank the EXCO for their service.”
Political pundits believe that time was overdue for the governor to take “proper charge of his government” noting that most of the members of his cabinet were people “imposed” on him n=by people who helped him to win the 2023 governorship election in the state.
