Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State has concluded plans to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) today (Monday).
The Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa have already been decorated in APC colours with giant billboards of Governor Diri and President Bola Tinubu donning the entire space.
Justifying his decision to join the APC, Governor Diri during a church service in Yenagoa on Sunday that he moved to the APC in the interest of Bayelsa State.
According Senator Diri, “Somebody had to take the decision, and I took it on behalf of the state, in the best interest of Bayelsa. Some of you might not understand now, but later it will be clear to all.
“When we came in as a government, we ensured that most uncompleted projects were completed and new ones were initiated. That alone is enough reason to thank God.
“The peace and security we enjoy today are also reasons for gratitude. Politics should be for development, not to destroy your brother. The gathering here is a testimony to the unity in our state.”
However, despite the defection of the governor, several politicians including the Deputy Governor of the state, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, three members of the House of Representatives, two senators including Governor Diri’s predecessor, Senator Seriake Dickson and three members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
