Gov Mbah Set to Officially Join APC, Meets New New Party Chairman

Enugu State Governor, Mr. Peter Mbah has concluded all plans to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

As part of the grand plan to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Mbah met with the new caretaker committee chairman of the party in the state, Dr. Ben Nwoye in Enugu on Thursday.

Sources close to the Enugu governor told FACTSHEET that the dissolution of the Enugu APC structure was part of strategic move by the APC leadership at the national level to ensure that Governor Mbah effectively takes over the party structure in the state.

The new APC Caretaker Chairman had earlier told journalists after a meeting organised by the Enugu Progressive Group that a motion to welcome Governor Mbah into the APC had been moved and adopted.

According to him, “ during the meeting, a motion was moved for us to agree to receive Peter into the fold of APC if he decides to join the party.

“And that motion unanimously passed, that the APC in Enugu state, will be happy, joyous, to receive Governor Peter into our party.

“Another motion was moved to support Peter for 2027 to be elected for second tenure in 2027

“ Members of the progressives in Enugu state, have expressed their determination to support Peter for a second tenure come 2027.”

Speaking further he said that, “We also moved a motion during the meeting to support and adopt President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for 2027 as our candidate, and work for him to be re-elected .

“The members of Progressives are grassroot people drawn from all the 260 wards in 17 local government areas of Enugu state.

“We came together to end project 4,772; in the last project organised by Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji and the Enugu APC Chairman, Barr Ugo Agballah they gave Tinubu 4,772 votes.

“We want to make sure that the presidency remains in the South and with Governor Peter Mbah Comming on board victory is guaranteed for President Tinubu in 2027. He will complete second tenure in 2031,”

Nwoye met with Governor Mbah earlier today in what insiders described as a “strategic reconciliation and realignment meeting” ahead of the governor’s formal defection to the ruling party.

The development follows the resignation of Uche Nnaji, former minister of science and technology, whose exit is believed to have cleared the last major obstacle to Mbah’s entry into the APC.

Nnaji, who was the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, had reportedly resisted efforts to integrate Mbah into the APC fold.

His resignation, which came after a certificate scandal, is seen as paving the way for a complete restructuring of the party’s leadership in the state.

With the dissolution of the state executive committee and Nwoye’s appointment, Governor Mbah is now expected to assume the role of APC leader in Enugu.

A formal declaration event is expected in the coming days
