Gov. Mbah in National Assembly as Five Enugu Reps Dump PDP for APC

Five members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Enugu State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives.

The lawmakers in letters they individually addressed to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Abbas Tajudeen officially announced their defection on the floor of the House at Thursday’s plenary.

Also, another member from Plateau State who was elected on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) also announced his defection to the APC.

The five lawmakers from Enugu State are, Hon. Chidi Obetta (PDP, Enugu), Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu (PDP, Enugu), Hon. Dennis Agbo (PDP, Enugu), Hon.  Martins George (PDP, Enugu), and Hon. Nnaji Nnolim (PDP, Enugu), while the Plateau lawmaker is Hon.Daniel Ago (LP, Plateau

Giving reasons for their dumping of the PDP, the Enugu lawmakers cited leadership crisis in the PDP which they described as “irreconcilable” as being the major reason for their defection.

At the plenary, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda were ushered into the plenary to witness the defection.

Governor Mbah had earlier defected to the APC after the Enugu State leadership of the party was dismantled paving way for the complete control of the party by the governor. Peter Mbah was the only governor of the PDP in the Southeast.

Before his defection, he had been locked in a fight with some leaders of the PDP as he had aligned pushed to take control of the party’s leadership, but after the Supreme Court ruled against his candidate for the National Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Sunday Udeh Okoye, Mbah and his entire cabinet decided to dump the party on whose platform they were elected into office.
