Senator Jonathan Silas Zwingina, a former Leader of the Senate has died, aged 70.
Zwingina a veteran democrat represented Adamawa South in the Senate between 1999 and 2007. As serving as the the leader of the Senate, he was also at different times the Chairman of the Senate Committees including Works, Internal Affairs, Special Projects and Privatisation among others.
Senator Zwingina was the Director-General of the MKO Abiola campaign Organisation in the June 12, 1993, presidential election.
The deceased former lawmaker was born in Adamawa State, Zwingina was a founding member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
He later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) later in his career.
During the time of Nasir El Rufai as the Minister of the FCT, the Abuja home lf Senator Zwingina was demolished on trump up allegations of sitring on unapproved plot.
He was the Chairman board of trustees of Save Democracy Group Africa.
Zwingina was known for his advocacy for democracy and played a key role in Nigerian politics during his time in office.
