Former Reps Speaker, Agunwa Anaekwe to be Buried on October 17, 2025

The remains of former Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Agunwa Anaekwe will be buried on Friday October 17, 2025, the burial committee has announced.

 

Hon. Anaekwe who died on July 5, 2025 at the age of 69 was elected the Speaker of the 3rd session of the House of Representatives on December 5, 1992. He was a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and served in that capacity till November 17, 1993 when the military took power and dismantled democratic institutions.

At the return of democracy in 1999, Chief Anaekwe was a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He, however, later the joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) where he later served as a member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).

According to a statement issued by the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee, led by IfeanyiChukwu Afuba, the late Speaker will be buried at his Adazi – Ani country home, Anambra State.

 

The publicity committee also clarified that the late lawmaker’s “family name is ANAEKWE and not any other variant in circulation.”

 

 

Late Agunwa Anaekwe was a lawyer, a student activist who became an acting President of National Association of Nigerian Students during his undergraduate years.
