ELECTION VIOLENCE: We’ll Use Sen Fadahunsi as Example, 29 People Killed in Osun Already- Amnesty International
The country Director of Amnesty International (AI), Mr. Isa Sanusi has revealed that 29 persons have been killed in Osun State following continued escalation of political violence in the Southwest state ahead of the August 15, secheduled governorship election.
Sanusi who spoke on Channels TV morning programme, Sunrise Daily, from London on Thursday also stated that Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi who has been alleged to have called for the killing of political opponents will be reported to the “international community” for inciting violence.
“We are going to use him as an example, he came out on record advocate violence, such people do not deserve peace,” the AI boss said.
Sanusi explained that the Amnesty International was already compiling the list of politicians and political agents inciting electoral violence so that such people can be made to face international sanctions for their actions.
Fadahunsi who represents Osun East Senatorial Zone in the 10th Senate was seen in a viral social media video where he charged members of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “kill” members of the ruling Accord party in the state, ““From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too.”
However, after he was invited by the police in Osogbo, the lawmaker told journalists that the trending video was manipulated explaining that what he had said was that his party members should “kill” Accord Party members “with votes.”
The Osun State governorship election has been enmeshed in violence as tension continues to rise over the election. The police recently arrested the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), over allegations of stashing cash for vote-buying, the SSG was subsequently released.
