Some members of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church (CSMC) Worldwide have rejected the appointment of Most Senior Special Apostle Gabriel Kassim as the Acting Baba Aladura of the church noting that the appointment was against the tradition and constitution of the church.

Speaking under the umbrella of “concerned members of CSMC Worldwide,” the group maintains that according to the constitution of the church, the Most Senior Special Apostle Prophet Timothy Iranloye Adewoye is the authentic successor to the office.

In a statement dated August 20, 2026 seen by FACTSHEET, the group said the succession process to the office of Baba Aladura is clearly provided for under the Church’s Constitution and Sacred Tradition
According to the group, following the transition to glory of the late Baba Aladura, His Grace Emmanuel Alogbo, the position should constitutionally devolve to the next most senior officer in the Church’s hierarchy.
The group maintained that, based on this principle, Most Senior Special Apostle Prophet Timothy Iranloye Adewoye is the rightful successor.
The members, however, expressed concern over the announcement naming Most Senior Special Apostle Gabriel Kassim as Acting Baba Aladura, alleging that the decision did not follow the succession procedure stipulated in the Church Constitution.
They consequently described the appointment as “null, void and of no effect,” insisting that the Board of Trustees did not follow the constitutional process in making the announcement.
Reaffirming their position, the concerned members said they had, in consultation with districts and branches of the Church worldwide, recognised Adewoye as the authentic and constitutionally recognised Acting Baba Aladura, with effect from August 20, 2026.
They called on all districts, branches, model branches and members of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide to support Adewoye with their prayers and allegiance.
Part of the statement reads:
“We the concerned members of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Worldwide, acting in accordance with the Church Constitution and Sacred Tradition, wishes to address the recent announcement regarding the appointment of a new acting Baba Aladura.
“According to the Constitution of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, the office of Baba Aladura is filled by hierarchical succession. Upon the transition to glory of the late Baba Aladura, His grace, Emmanuel Alogbo, the mantle rightly and constitutionally devolves to the next in line of authority, who is Most Senior Special Apostle Prophet Timothy Iranloye Adewoye..
“This provision was put in place to preserve order, unity, and continuity in the Movement founded by our fathers.

“We note with concern the announcement naming Most Senior Special Apostle Gabriel Kassim, as Acting Baba Aladura. That announcement did not follow the procedure laid down in our Constitution which was not followed by the Board of Trustees.

“Therefore, we state categorically that such an announcement is null, void, and of no effect within the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church.

“In line with due process and in consultation with Districts and Branches Worldwide hereby affirm and presents Most Senior Apostle Prophet Timothy Iranloye Adewoye, as the authentic and constitutionally recognized Acting Baba Aladura of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, effective 20th, August 2026.
“We call on all Districts, Branches and Model Branches, and members worldwide, to give him their full support, prayers, and allegiance as we move forward in unity.
“We urge all members of the fold to remain calm, prayerful, and law-abiding.
The Church is bigger than any individual or Board Of Trustees.
Any action that seeks to cause division or confusion is contrary to the spirit of Cherubim and Seraphim.

“We also appeal to the public, media, and government agencies to recognize only communications that will be issued henceforth by the office of the authentic Acting Baba Aladura.
Recall that his Emminience Prophet Emmanuel Alogbo died in his home in Lagos State on July 30, 2026 at the age of 93. Since the death of the nonagenarian , the race to succeed him has been on among the leaders of the church.
