DEVELOPING STORY: Martin Amaewhule Resumes as Rivers Speaker, House Gives Fubara 48hrs to Present 2025 Budget
There is an uneasy calm in both the Rivers State House of Assembly and the Government House Port Harcourt as the Hon. Martin Amaewhule led majority members of the Rivers State House of Assembly resumed on Monday.
There has been heavy security presence around both government facilities arising from the ruling of the Supreme Court that returned the lawmakers and also dismissed the local government elections earlier conducted in the state.
On resumption on Monday, the House of Assembly slammed a 48-hour ultimatum on the state governor, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara to re-present the 2025 budget of the state.
Governor Fubara had on Sunday in a statewide broadcast directed the sacked local government chairmen to immediately hand over to the Head of personnel in their various local governments in compliance with the ruling of the apex court.
However, while the House of Assembly resumed on Monday, the lawmakers did not make any reference to the administration of local governments in the state.
