David Lammy Emerges UK Dpty Prime Minister as Starmer Shakes up Cabinet

David Lindon Lammy has been appointed the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Lammy was until his appointment the Foreign Secretary.

His appointment follows the resignation of Angela Rayner.

Rayner had earlier resigned as deputy prime minister over a report indicating that she failed to pay appropriate tax enough tax on her £800,000 flat in Hove, East Sussex.

David Lindon Lammy, a member of the Labour Party was elected to the UK parliament in 2000 to represent Tottenham. He has since held various positions  under Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.

Lammy, a lawyer holds dual citizenship of the UK and Guyana where his grandmother comes from.

BBC reports that following the resignation of Rayner, Prime Minister  Keir Starmer has reshuffled his cabinet.

In the new arrangement, Yvette Cooper has been reappointed to her former office, as Foreign Secretary, while Shabana Mahmood has now been appointed Home Secretary.

Douglas Alexander was appointed Secretary of State for Scotland,.

 

Also, Lucy Powell resigned as the leaders of the House of Commons and now replaced by Alan Campbell.
