Court Orders Investigation of Academic Records of Minister of Interior, Tunji-Ojo

A Federal High Court sitting  in Abuja has given a go-ahead for the investifgation of the academic records of the minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji -Ojo.

 

Justice Binta Nyako granted the rquest following a filed by a social activist, Emorioloye Owolemi which is seeking the permission of the court to verify the minister’s secondary school certificate.

Justice  Nyako granted the request in an ex-parte ruling,  agreeing that that the inquiry could proceed based on claims of inconsistencies in the minister’s academic history.

Mr. Owolemi told the court that there were questions surrounding the certificate reportedly issued by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to the minister.

The plaintiff argued that the matter required clarification in the  interest of the public.

The court, however, declined a second request linked to the minister’s National Youth Service Corps records.

In a separate ruling, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik has declined to grant and application seeking access to the minister’s NYSC discharge certificate on the ground that the request failed to meet legal conditions for granting such an order.

The minister’s NYSC certificate has been enmeshed in controversy over a claim that the minister, a former member of the House of Representatives did not finish his youth service.

 

There have been claims that the former lawmaker “absconded” but later completed his national service while he was a member of the National Assembly.

 

President Bola Tinubu’s administration have been rocked by series of certificate related accusations.

Former minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Mr.Uche  Nnaji resigned his position after it was confirmed that both his NYSC and “degree” certificate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka were “forged.”
