Court Grants EFCC Request to Detain Sujimoto Boss, Over Failed Enugu Smart Schools Contract

Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has secured an a detention order to keep embattled Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, Mr. Sijibomi Ogundele over its ongoing money laundering allegations.

FACTSHEET reported that the agency declared Mr. Ogundele wanted over various allegations of money laundering and other allegation of fraud.

Ogundele had taken to the social media where he shed tears over a collapsed business deal with the Enugu State Government, he admitted that he failed to deliver on a multi-billion smart school project of the government “due to the fall of the naira” and sudden hike in building materials in Nigeria, “I’m not a thief, I’m not a fugitive,”  he had cried.

However, in a twist to the matter, the Enugu State Government responded and described Ogundele’s antics as a man shedding “crocodile tears.” Responding, the Enugu State Commissioner for Information, Malachy Agbo in a media statement stated, “Rather than play to the rules of the contract to deliver quality projects for furnishing and equipping ahead of September 2025 school resumption, in line with the priority placed on the Smart Green Schools initiative by the government, Mr. Ogundele resorted to shoddy jobs and the use of inexperienced workers and quack engineer.” …“none of the project sites met the required structural integrity, and many were left abandoned. “Worse still, he vanished into thin air with the money. All efforts made by the government to get him to a roundtable proved abortive.”

A sources at the EFCC confirmed to the media that  Ogundele is now in the EFCC custody. The agency is said to have secured  the detention order from a magistrate court.

Ogundele is being questioned on how he allegedly diverted over N5.7 billion funds from the Enugu State smart school project.

The EFCC sources indicate that the agency is in possession of incriminating documents on both the contract and payments.

EFCC has already frozen the personal accounts of Mr. Ogundele as well as that of his company, Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited
