Nigeria’s presidential jet bearing the body of Nigeria’s former leader, Muhammadu Buhari has left London, United Kingdom enroute Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport Katsina ahead of the scheduled burial of the former president in his home town of Daura later in the day.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is leading a powerful federal government team earlier dispatched by President Bola Tinubu to fetch the remains of the departed leader from a hospital in London where he had died while receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
The federal government has already declared today a public holiday to honour President Buhari in addition to a one-week mourning period earlier declared.

The minister of information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idri had earlier announced that President Bola Tinubu will in person welcome the remains pf his predecessor at the airport and take full part in the funeral rites for the late general.
According to the minister, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will personally receive the remains of the former President in Katsina.
“Upon arrival in Katsina, a brief military ceremony will be held at the airport before the body is moved to Daura.
“The Jana’iza (funeral prayer) will take place thereafter, followed by interment at the late President’s residence.”
