Benue Assembly Suspends Former Speaker Over Alleged Impeachment Plot Against Alia

The new leadership of the Benue State House of Assembly has suspended the immediate past speaker , Hon. Aondona Dajoh indefinitely.

The former speaker was suspended on the accusation that he was plotting to impeach the governor of the state, Fr. Hyacinth Alia.

The motion for the suspension of the former speaker was moved by the lawmaker representing Kyan State Constituency, Hon. Terna Shimawua, while the lawmaker representing Apa State Constituency, Hon. James Umoru seconded the motion.

The speaker of the House, Hon. Alfred Berger who presided at the plenary  announced that the suspension will last for three months instead of the earlier six months carried during the motion.

Hon. Shimawua, who moved the motion was earlier suspended during the time of Hon. Dajoh’s speakership on the grounds that he was plotting to impeach the speaker.

The motion was not put to motion as required by the rules of the House.
