Anambra 2025: Soludo Wins APGA Primary Unopposed

 

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has emerged as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election.

The primary election was held On Saturday, at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, with 3,175 accredited delegates participating from the state’s 326 wards. Governor Soludo, who was the sole aspirant, received 3,168 affirmative votes, with no dissenting votes and four invalid ballots.

The returning officer, Uche Nwegbo, announced the results, stating: “Total delegates for this election is 3,260; 3,175 accredited delegates; 3,172 total votes, while four votes were invalid. The total yes-votes garnered by the governor is 3,168, while there were no no-votes. So, in line with INEC guidelines and with the powers conferred on me as the chief returning officer for this election, I, Uche Nwegbo, hereby declare the governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, as returned, as the candidate of our party.”

In his acceptance speech, Governor Soludo expressed gratitude to the delegates and reaffirmed his commitment to the state’s development: “Anambra is APGA and APGA is Anambra. I am humbled by this historic display of solidarity. I accept this nomination wholeheartedly.” He also announced that Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim would continue as his running mate, stating, “If it’s not broken, why mend it?”

The primary election was conducted under the observation of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and adhered to the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022. APGA’s National Chairman, Chief Uchenna Nwegbo, emphasized that the process complied with all legal requirements.

Governor Soludo’s nomination sets the stage for him to seek a second term in the November 8, 2025, governorship election. He assured the people of Anambra of continued progress, stating, “Anambra has not seen anything yet. Our agenda is loaded, and we will continue the progress unbroken.”
