Akeredolu’s Failed Health: Ondo Deputy Gov, Lucky Aiyedatiwa to Takeover After Tinubu’s Intervention

Barring any last minute changes, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa is set take over the administration of the Sunshine State.

This follows a peace meeting brokered by President Bola Tinubu in Aso Rock Villa, on Friday. The state has been enmeshed in crisis occasioned by power tussle between the handlers of the state’s ailing Governor, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu and his Deputy, Chief Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The crisis has led to several impeachment moves against the deputy governor as well as counter court actions from the warring sides.

The ensuing crisis led the Ondo State Elders led by Chief Reuben Fasontanti (Convener) and Chief Bakkita Bello (Secretary) intervening and urging the State House of Assembly to neither impeach the governor nor his deputy.

The Elders subsequently wrote President Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) calling on them to intervene and save the state from avoidable constitutional crisis.

At the meeting convened at the State House in Abuja on Friday, members of the National Assembly from Ondo State as well as key supporters and aides of both Governor Akeredolu and his deputy were in attendance.

One of the stakeholders in attendance who spoke to FACTSHEET on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak for the attendees said that “the matter has been largely resolved, the Deputy Governor will takeover because the constitution empowers him to do so.”

“No one is doing him a favour, Aketi chose him as deputy for days like this, it is only greedy people who are benefiting from the confusion in the state that are fueling the crisis. You can see that Ondo State is suffering for lack of clear direction of leadership, we are educated and enlightened people we cannot go on like this,” he stated.

He said that President Tinubu was “firm as a father” and that everyone has resolved that Chief Lucky Aiyedatiwa “will steer the ship of the state going forward.”
