“Truth may be delayed by noise, but it can never be defeated by it.”
For some time now, discussions surrounding the private residence of Senator Engr. Kenneth Emeka Eze have dominated social media conversations. Some admire its architectural brilliance; others, driven by envy rather than evidence, have sought to weaponise it for political mischief.
That conversation will undoubtedly continue, because excellence naturally attracts both admiration and envy. As William Shakespeare aptly observed, “The moon cannot hide its light because owls dislike the night.”
What must, however, prevail over speculation is the truth.
The residence in question was conceived, designed and completed before Senator Eze was sworn in as the Senator representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District in June 2023. This is not conjecture but an established fact known even to many of those now orchestrating media sensationalism around it.
Upon assuming office, the property was duly declared to the Code of Conduct Bureau in compliance with the law. When photographs of the building naturally found their way onto social media, many appreciated the ingenuity behind the project, others deliberately presented it as though it had suddenly emerged from public funds after he became a Senator, to score some cheap political points, especially this political season.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Indeed, the same residence hosted Senator Eze’s landmark empowerment programme, attended by distinguished personalities from across Ebonyi State and beyond. That public event further demonstrates that the house neither originated nor was completed during his tenure in the Senate.
Beyond being a magnificent residence, the building stands as a testament to the creativity and professional competence of its owner.
As a trained engineer, Senator Kenneth Emeka Eze personally conceptualised and supervised the architectural design and construction of the project. It reflects his engineering expertise, innovation and attention to detail, qualities that have defined his professional career long before politics beckoned.
Many know Senator Eze as a legislator, but few know the accomplished entrepreneur behind the public office.
After graduating as an engineer, Senator Eze worked with the National Engineering and Technical Company (NETCO), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), then operating in joint venture with Bechtel. During his years there, he built invaluable professional experience and financial capacity before venturing into private enterprise.
Armed with knowledge, vision and determination, he established CRISPMOON Nigeria Limited and CRISPMOON Technology Nigeria Limited, companies that have, for decades, provided engineering consultancy, ICT solutions and retainership services to multinational oil and gas companies, financial institutions and other corporate organisations.
His success in engineering and consultancy naturally led to expansion into the construction sector through the establishment of ZIONGATES Construction Company Nigeria Limited. Over the years, the company has successfully executed numerous construction projects for individuals, corporate organisations and government agencies.
Senator Kenneth Emeka Eze did not become wealthy because he ventured into politics.
Rather, he ventured into politics after establishing himself as a successful engineer, businessman, investor and employer of labour.
He brought into public service not the desperation to acquire wealth, but the wealth of experience accumulated through decades of entrepreneurship, engineering excellence and prudent management.
Unfortunately, those obsessed with circulating photographs of his residence have conveniently ignored a more important story, the story of performance.
They have circulated his home but rarely his achievements.
They have amplified bricks and mortar while ignoring lives transformed.
They never ask how a Senator who is not a principal officer has facilitated federal civil service employment for well over two hundred constituents.
They rarely discuss his massive empowerment programmes that have changed countless lives.
They overlook his numerous infrastructural projects spread across Ebonyi Central.
They pay little attention to his interventions in healthcare, education, rural electrification, water supply, youth empowerment and human capital development.
Curiously, they have never challenged the authenticity of these achievements because they are visible, verifiable and undeniable.
Rather than compare residences, the people of Ebonyi Central should compare performance.
There are one hundred and nine Senators in Nigeria’s 10th Senate.
Let objective analysts examine the records of all 109 Senators and honestly determine how many have surpassed Senator Kenneth Emeka Eze in attracting developmental projects, facilitating employment opportunities, executing impactful empowerment programmes and delivering tangible democratic dividends within the first three years of this administration.
The facts speak louder than propaganda.
Measured by performance, Senator Eze stands comfortably among the most productive members of the 10th Senate, competing favourably with even several principal officers despite not occupying any principal leadership position.
That is the conversation those fixated on his residence deliberately avoid.
We welcome scrutiny.
Public office demands accountability.
But scrutiny must be anchored on facts, not falsehood; on evidence, not envy; on truth, not political mischief.
There is absolutely no shame in a successful professional living in a home he legitimately conceived, designed and built through years of hard work before assuming office.
If anything, it should inspire young Nigerians to understand that politics is not the only path to success.
Ironically, many of those leading today’s campaign of media sensationalism belong to the same circle that mocked some former public office holders for retiring into poverty and lacking decent homes. Their opposition is not ideological. It is habitual. Their criticism is not constructive. It is selective and vindictive. Their objective is not accountability. It is perpetual negativity and mischief.
Senator Kenneth Emeka Eze remains focused, not on responding to every distraction, but on delivering results for the people who entrusted him with their mandate.
History ultimately remembers builders, not noise makers.
And when the records of service are finally written, they will be measured by the depth of his numerous achievements and life changing impact on the lives of his people
