PFIPC SCANDAL: We Didn’t Arrest Gbajabiamila, He ‘Willing Honoured Investigators’ Invitation’- ICPC
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila was at the commission’s headquarters to give his statement on the ongoing investigation on Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), which has been described as a “fake agency.”
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by J. Okor Odey, Head, Media and Public Communications, ICPC stated that, “Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, was at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday, 20th June, 2026, to give a statement in connection with the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).”
the commission also confirmed that, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR had directed the Commission to investigate how the PFIPC, an entity the Presidency has disowned as fraudulent, came to operate from within the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, for a reported period of about two years, under one Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who is alleged to have paraded himself as the Director-General of the said Council.”
Gbajabiamila has been in the eye of the storm as the principal suspect in the, Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew accused the Chief of Staff of collecting N400million bribe from him for his appointment as the “Director General of the ‘phantom’ federal agency.
The ICPC, however, stated that Gbajabiamila was not detained as reported in some quarters, noting that the presidential aide honoured the invitation of the commission.
“Mr Gbajabiamila arrived at the Commission in the afternoon and spent some time attending to enquiries from investigators, after which he departed the premises.”
“The Commission confirms that the Chief of Staff’s visit was on the invitation of its investigators and consistent with its ongoing efforts to gather all relevant facts in the matter. He was not arrested; he simply willingly honoured an invitation,” the commission clarified.
