Ortom Denies 2027 Senate Ambition, Labels Viral Claim “Pure Fiction”

The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has firmly dismissed reports suggesting he is planning to contest for a Senate seat in the 2027 general elections, describing the claim as false and misleading.
In a statement released by his Media Adviser and Consultant, Terver Akase, the former governor said the rumour, which has been circulating widely on social media, is a fabrication that should be disregarded by the public.
“Our attention has been drawn to yet another imaginative piece of fiction alleging that Chief Samuel Ortom has declared his intention to run for the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in 2027,” the statement read.
Akase noted that while such claims would ordinarily be ignored, the clarification became necessary to prevent the public from mistaking falsehood for reality.
He emphasized that Ortom has consistently maintained that he has no intention of contesting any elective position in the 2027 elections, reiterating that his focus remains on contributing to national development outside elective politics.
According to the statement, the former governor is committed to promoting democratic values, strengthening his political party, and offering statesmanlike guidance rather than pursuing another political office.
Ortom also expressed gratitude to his supporters, political associates, and concerned Nigerians who reached out following the circulation of the rumour, assuring them of his continued dedication to public service in a non-elective capacity.
The statement concluded by urging members of the public to treat the report as baseless and to rely only on verified information regarding the former governor’s political intentions.
