The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced the deployment of 1,803 personnel and operational assets to strategic locations across Abuja as part of heightened security measures for the 2026 Easter celebration.
The move, aimed at ensuring a peaceful and safe festive period, was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh. She explained that the deployment would cover churches, recreational centres, and other public gathering spots throughout the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the statement, the security arrangement includes intensified visibility policing, intelligence-led operations, and coordinated vehicular as well as foot patrols across key areas of the city. The initiative is designed to deter criminal activities and reassure residents and visitors during the Easter festivities.
In addition, specialized units, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, have been mobilized to conduct routine sweeps of major public venues to prevent any potential security threats.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, called on residents to embrace the values of peace, unity, and mutual respect, which reflect the spirit of Easter. He emphasized the importance of public cooperation with security agencies, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
The Command reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free celebration across the nation’s capital.
Authorities also encouraged the public to comply with security guidelines and support ongoing efforts to maintain law and order throughout the holiday period.
