Lobi Stars F.C. secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Kada Warriors in a rescheduled Nigeria National League encounter played on Wednesday evening, marking the club’s final home game of the season.
The decisive moment came just before halftime when Lobi Stars were awarded a penalty after Dominic Foga was brought down inside the box. Forward Suur Kumaga calmly stepped up and converted from the spot, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to give the hosts the lead.
Backed by enthusiastic home supporters, Lobi Stars pushed to extend their advantage in the second half but failed to capitalize on several scoring opportunities. Kada Warriors, owned by former Super Eagles winger Garba Lawal, also mounted pressure and came close to finding an equalizer, but were unable to break through the home side’s defense.
Speaking after the match, Lobi Stars Head Coach John Onuh expressed mixed feelings about the result. While praising his team’s performance, he lamented their inability to convert chances.
“I am pleased with the performance, but we missed many chances that could have made the scoreline more comfortable,” Onuh said.
The coach also admitted disappointment over the club’s failure to secure promotion back to the Nigeria Professional Football League this season, noting that significant rebuilding efforts are needed.
“There are a lot of things to overhaul. I took over at the end of the first round and had to work hard with the players. We brought in a few additions, but it’s clear more changes are needed for us to compete and secure promotion next season,” he added.
In recognition of standout performance, Valantine Egiga was named Man of the Match and received a cash prize of N50,000, courtesy of Novus Bank.
The victory provides a morale boost for Lobi Stars as they wrap up their campaign, with fans hopeful that the team will regroup and return stronger in pursuit of top-flight football next season
