The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command intercepted 488 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition concealed within two 25-liter jerrycans filled with palm oil. The suspect, 32-year-old Nuhu Aminu from Katsina State, was apprehended at the Nyanya bus terminal in Abuja on Monday, March 24, 2025.
Acting on credible intelligence and in collaboration with officials from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), officers from the Nyanya Division tracked and arrested Aminu. The ammunition was ingeniously concealed to evade detection, highlighting the sophisticated methods employed by arms smugglers.

FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the arrest and seizure, emphasizing the command’s commitment to combating illegal arms trafficking within the territory. She stated that the suspect is currently in custody, and ongoing investigations aim to uncover accomplices and the broader network involved in the smuggling operation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Isyaku Sharu, commended the collaborative efforts between the police and the NURTW, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly. This interception underscores the importance of community engagement and intelligence sharing in enhancing public safety and security.
This operation is part of a series of proactive measures by the FCT Police Command to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and ensure the safety of residents in the capital territory
