Gov Fubara Begins Implementation of Supreme Court Verdict, Directs LG Chairpersons to Hand Over to Administrators

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has directed elected local government chairpersons in the state to hand over to heads of local government administration (HLGAs) following the nullification of the council elections by the Supreme Court.

Fubara gave the directive during a statewide broadcast on Sunday, stating that the HLGAs will oversee the councils pending the conduct of fresh elections by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

“Furthermore, given the outlawing of caretaker arrangements in the local government system, I hereby direct the heads of local government administration to immediately take over the administration of the 23 local government councils pending the conduct of fresh elections by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission,” he said.
