94 People Die While Scooping Fuel as Tanker Explodes in Jigawa, 50 Suffer Serious Burns

 

 

The police have confirmed that more than 94 persons were killed when a petrol tanker exploded in Majiya Town in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

An eyewitness told journalists that the casualty figure was so high because people rushed to scoop fuel from the fallen tanker when it exploded, killing several and leaving others with severe burns.

The tanker was said to have left Kano enroute Nguru in Yobe State when the driver lost control and the heavily laden tanker fell at about 11:30 pm on Tuesday.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Nigeria police, Jigawa State Command, Shi’isu Adam, told journalists that about 50 persons suffered serious burns in the incident.

According to Adam, “No fewer than 90 people were confirmed dead following a petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Taura local government area of Jigawa State on Tuesday.”

There has not been any official update on the incident from the Jigawa State Government.
