University of Abuja Gets First Female SUG President in 38years

A 300-level student of Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Miss Peculiar Oghenenyerovwo Eyamu has been elected the President of the University of Abuja Students’ Union Government (SUG).

Miss Eyamu with her elections becomes the first ever female SUG President of the 38 year old institution. President Bola Tinubu recently renamed the school after Nigeria’s former military dictator, General Yakubu Gowon.

According to a statement shared on the schools social media pages, the new SUG president was elected during the Students’ Union Government elections conducted through a digital voting platform for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The president-elect ran on the campaign slogan, “Everything Peculiar, Nothing Is Ordinary.”
In her acceptance statement, Miss Eyamu was quoted to have said, “I feel grateful to God and sincerely thankful to every student who believed in my vision. Being the first elected female SUG President is not just a personal achievement; it is a victory for every young woman who has dared to dream and for every student who believes leadership should be based on competence, character and service, not gender.”
