The Labour Party (LP) Secretariat in Ikeja GRA, Lagos, was the target of a violent attack on Monday, April 7, 2025, as an estimated 300 armed individuals stormed the premises around 10 a.m., looting valuables and carting away millions of naira in cash.
Eyewitnesses and staff at the secretariat reported that the attackers arrived in a coordinated manner, vandalizing offices and stealing sensitive documents, electronics, and other valuable items. The attackers reportedly overwhelmed the premises, leaving destruction in their wake.
Shortly after the invasion, police officers were seen at the scene; however, no arrests were made as the perpetrators had already fled. The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is ongoing.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but some party insiders suggest it may be linked to internal political tensions within the party’s leadership.
The Lagos State Chairperson of the Labour Party, Pastor Dayo Ekong, condemned the attack in a post on X, saying:

“This is an unfortunate incident and yet another show of how violence is being used to intimidate and suppress voices of reason. The attack on the Lagos LP Secretariat is unacceptable, and we call on security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.”

The official X account of the Labour Party, @NgLabour, also responded to the incident, calling for calm and vowing to stand firm despite the provocation:
“The Labour Party will not be cowed by violent attacks or intimidation. We urge our supporters to remain calm as we pursue lawful channels to ensure justice is served.”

In a related development, LP National Chairman Julius Abure dismissed claims of a leadership change within the party, asserting that the National Working Committee remains intact. He described attempts to form a caretaker committee as illegal and a distraction aimed at destabilizing the party.
As the investigation continues, party leaders and supporters have urged authorities to act swiftly to ensure those behind the attack are brought to justice.
