2027: Tinubu Expands Media Team, Appoints Jonathan Ex-Spokesman, Ima Niboro
Former Presidential Spokesman and veteran journalist, Mr. Ima Niboro has been appointed to join the spokespersons of President Bola Tinubu’s presidential campaign council.
Niboro served as President Jonathan’s spokesman from the latter’s time as Vice President, Niboro was later removed shortly before Jonathan lost his bid for a second term in office.
In 2016, Niboro who was hitherto a card-carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), he was subsequently appointed to the media team of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
President Muhammadu Buhari later appointed Niboro the Managing Director Niboro, of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
As the MD of NAN, Niboro oversaw the agency’s nationwide news-gathering operations and international activities.
The latest appointment follows a renewed efforts to strengthens the communications structure of President Tinubu’s second term bid ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The communications team is headed by Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, while Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, serves as co-chairman.
Other members of the team include Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President and former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Tunde Rahman, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Special Duties and Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress.
The team comprises journalists, government media officials and political strategists with experience in traditional and digital communications.
Niboro’s inclusion further adds an experienced media professional who previously handled communications for a sitting president and led a national news agency to Tinubu’s campaign structure.
The communications team is expected to highlight the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda and communicate the next phase of the Renewed Hope Agenda as the President seeks re-election in 2027.
