Why should Sowore, Igboho, Emefiele Granted Bail, but Nnamdi Kanu Denied – Hon. Obi Aguocha

The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha has called for for justice and fairness describing the continuous detention of Nnamdi Kanu as unfair after the likes of Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo, Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele and Omoyele Sowore who were arrested and arraigned but granted bail.

Hon. Obi Aguocha in a statement titled Nnamdi Kanu, Sowore, Igboho, and Emefiele, Call for Justice said “Is there one set rule for other Nigerians from different zones and another for Igbo’s within the South East zone?

He said Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho a Nigerian Yoruba self-determination activist, Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria were arrested, detained and arraigned in court like Nnamdi Kanu, apolitical activist and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) but these other people have been granted bail while the latter still remains in detention despite court orders for his release

Hon. Obi Aguocha said “These four are citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria accused by the government of various offences.

“Sowore and Igboho are free men by reason of the determination of the judiciary in protecting the rights of these citizens, and I must add, rightly so.

“Mr. Emefiele, also by the determination of the judiciary, had been granted bail in the sum of N50M. It is his constitutional right.

“But is Nnamdi Kanu not a citizen of Nigeria? Nnamdi Kanu does not have a concomitant constitutional right to be granted bail?

“Shouldn’t Nnamdi Kanu at this point be released unconditionally?

“Is there one set rule for other Nigerians from different zones and another for Igbo’s within the South East zone?

“I hereby appeal to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, HE Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, to use his exalted good offices in ensuring the unconditional and immediate release of a citizen, Nnamdi Kanu as a demonstration of good faith in supporting the peaceful development of the South East and the wellbeing of Ndi Igbo.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for your anticipated consideration and acquiescence.”
