A senior politician in Rivers State has told FACTSHEET that Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State dissolved his cabinet as part of a fresh agreement with his godfather, Nyesom Wike to build trust among politicians in the state.
The embattled Governor on Thursday announced the dissolution of his cabinet, signaling a new chapter in the lingering political crisis rocking the state.
In an “government special announcement” signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, all commissioners and Special Advisers are by the announcement sacked.
According to Nzeshi, the governor thanked all the affected cabinet members for their service his government and the state.
“His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council.

“His Excellency, the Governor, has therefore directed all Commissioners and Special Advisers to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most Senior officers in their Ministries with immediate effect.
“His Excellency further expresses his deepest appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council wishing them the best in their future endeavours,” the statement read.
Speaking to FACTSHEET on condition of anonymity “to avoid unnecessary insinuations” a major political stakeholder in the oil-rich state said that “the dissolution of the cabinet was part of a new agreement reached with the camp of political group led by the minister of the FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike to create a fresh start in mending fences in the state.”
Speaking further, the source said that President Tinubu’s latest intervention was aimed at resolving the intractable political crisis in a way that both Fubara and his political godfather, Wike will “join hands to unite Rivers people to avoid any mistakes ahead of the critical 2027 presidential election.”
He noted that the governor is expected to appoint “some neutral technocrats who will help the governor to deliver on his mandate to the people of Rivers State” iand not “politicians who would rather cause disaffection with their utterances” instead of concentarting on their duties.
