Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Johanesburg tp represent President Bola Tinubu at the G20 Leaders Summit which kicked off earlier today.
FACTSHEET reported that President Tinubu shelved his earlier plans to attend the international event and the AU-EU Summit that is scheduled to hold in Luanda, Angola early next week.09
The decision of President Tinubu was to enable him coordinate and take briefing from security chiefs as attacks by terrorists in several parts of northern Nigeria escalates.
Announcing his departure to South Africa, VP Shettima in a statement shared on social media handle stated that Nigeria was invited by the South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa.

His statement reads:
“I have departed Abuja to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
“President Cyril Ramaphosa, the South African leader who also serves as the current President of the G20 group, had invited his Nigerian counterpart to participate in this year’s edition.
“The Summit, scheduled to take place from Saturday, November 22nd to Sunday, November 23rd, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, brings together leaders from the world’s top 20 economies, including the European Union, the African Union, financial institutions, among others.
Insecurity in Nigeria has been on the the spike in the last one week with terrorists attacking and abducting Nigerians in Kebbi, Niger and Kogi states.
Nigerian soldiers, including a general were attacked and killed in Bornu State by ISWAP terrorists.8109
