Nigeria’s D’Tigress will face the defending champions from the USA in the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics women’s basketball tournament on Wednesday, following the draw on Sunday.
This marks a historic achievement for Nigeria as they become the first African nation to advance to the final eight in Olympic basketball, for both men and women.
The D’Tigress will have a formidable challenge ahead against the Americans, who have claimed the last seven Olympic titles.
Nigeria secured their quarterfinal spot with a 79-70 victory over Canada on Sunday, while the USA defeated Germany 87-68, led by Jackie Young’s 19 points and A’ja Wilson’s 14 points.
In other matchups, host France, who won bronze at the Tokyo Games, will play Germany, and Spain will compete against Belgium. The day’s first game will feature Serbia against Australia.
The knockout rounds for both men’s and women’s basketball will take place in Paris after the group stages were held near Lille.
