Tinubu Orders Immediate Review of Board Appointments in Federal Tertiary Institutions
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate review of all the board appointments in all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The order of the president is sequel to complaints over inconsistencies and discrepancies in the recently released appointments across Nigeria.
The President ordered that all the appointments must be reviewed before the inauguration of the boards.
The threats of strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to embark on strike over unwarranted delays in constituting governing councils of federal universities prompted the Federal Ministry of Education to release the new appointments covering federal terciary institutions including universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu “in directing a complete review of the list of the members of the governing councils, acknowledges the feedback across the country.
“President Tinubu is committed to ensuring strict compliance with the principle of federal character as entrenched in the constitution. The review will also take into consideration national spread and ensure every part of the country is adequately represented.
Among the complaints from various quarters is the allegation of non-adherence to federal character in the appointments as well as nomination of “misfits” in some school councils.
