Tragedy struck Aso A community, near Jumai Estate in Mararaba, a boundary town between Abuja and Nasarawa State, following a violent attack by suspected herdsmen that left several persons dead and many others injured.
The early Wednesday morning assault reportedly claimed no fewer than six lives, although residents fear the casualty figure may be higher as the situation continues to unfold.

According to local sources, the violence was triggered by an earlier confrontation between a farmer and a herder, which allegedly resulted in the death of the herder. The farmer involved in the incident is said to have fled the community shortly afterward, sparking what residents describe as a retaliatory attack.
Eyewitnesses said armed assailants, believed to be herdsmen, stormed the residence of the fleeing farmer before unleashing violence on the wider community. Houses were set ablaze, and residents were attacked indiscriminately as panic spread across the area.
The situation reportedly worsened when some community members attempted to resist the attackers, leading to further bloodshed and destruction of property. A disturbing video circulating online showed several homes engulfed in flames, while the lifeless body of a victim was seen being transported in a wheelbarrow to a nearby hospital.
A resident, who spoke anonymously for fear of reprisals, disclosed that the once-bustling community has now been largely deserted, with many inhabitants fleeing to safer locations within Abuja and surrounding areas.
Security operatives, including a joint team of police and military personnel, have since been deployed to restore order and prevent further escalation. However, the violence extended beyond the immediate community, as a motorcyclist conveying a police officer to the scene was reportedly ambushed and killed by the attackers.
Tension remains high across Mararaba and neighbouring communities amid unverified reports that more armed groups may be mobilising from Keffi for possible reprisal attacks.
Efforts to obtain an official statement from the Aso A Police Division proved abortive, as the Divisional Police Officer declined to comment on the incident at the time of filing this report.
Residents are calling for urgent government intervention to prevent further loss of lives and restore lasting peace in the volatile border community.
