The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, will on Wednesday engage a segment of the Nigerian youth who are currently participating in the Legislative Mentorship Initiative (LMI).
This is coming a little over a month after the Speaker’s engagement with a broad segment of the Nigerian youth on July 31 at a town hall meeting, where over 25 youth groups attended.
Among others, the Speaker promised the Nigerian youth that the House would hold a youth dialogue twice annually for the leadership of the House to know their plight with a view to finding solutions.
In furtherance of his engagement, Speaker Abbas will have a session with the participants of LMI Cohort 3 at the National Assembly on Wednesday, titled ‘An afternoon with the Speaker.’
In addition to sharing his life experiences and some leadership tips with the Fellows, the Speaker is expected to highlight the initiatives by the 10th House to support youth leadership and encourage their participation in politics, among others.
The LMI is an initiative founded in 2022 by the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who is now the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The programme is designed and targeted at equipping and empowering dynamic young leaders interested in public sector leadership, especially in the legislature, by providing them with the necessary hands-on training and engagement in governance and public service through collaborative and inclusive leadership.
The mission of the initiative is to develop the next generation of legislators and ethical public sector leaders who are well-equipped with responsive leadership skills, knowledge, and expertise to enhance public service delivery and foster national cohesion.
