Speaker Abbas seeks prayers for Nigeria as Muslims, Christians commence Ramadan, Lent

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has called for prayers and deep reflection as Nigerians observe the Ramadan and Lent fasting seasons, urging Muslims and Christians to collectively seek divine intervention on the issues in the country.

While Muslims commenced Ramadan fasting today, February 18, 2026, Christians also entered the Lenten season – Ash Wednesday – on the same day.

The Speaker, in his message to Muslims and Christians, noted that the fasting season is divinely arranged and offers a great opportunity for Nigerians to pray for the country, especially for the socio-economic, political, and security issues.

He equally called for prayers and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and other political, traditional, and religious leaders in the country.

He said, “As we welcome the blessed month of Ramadan and the Lent, I join millions of Muslims and Christians across Nigeria and around the world in gratitude to Allah (SWT) for the gift of life and the privilege to witness this sacred season once again.

“Ramadan and Lent fasting seasons are periods of reflection, restraint, and renewal; a moment that reminds us that beyond titles and positions, we are servants first—accountable to Allah and responsible to humanity. It teaches us patience in trials, compassion for the vulnerable, and discipline in our daily conduct.

“In this holy month, I pray that Allah purifies our hearts, strengthens our faith, and grants us the wisdom to act with justice and sincerity in all that we do. May He guide our leaders, bless our nation with peace and unity, and ease the burdens of every struggling family.

“As we fast and pray, may we also recommit ourselves to kindness, integrity, and service to one another. Let us use this season to build bridges, forgive grievances, and uplift those in need. May Allah accept our fasts, our prayers, and our sacrifices.”
