Simon Ekpa Cannot be Granted Bail- Finish Government

Simon Ekpa, the factional Biafran agitator and leader of the auto-pilot group cannot be granted bail until his trial is completed Finish security officials have disclosed.

In an email sent to Punch Newspaper, a Senior Detective Superintendent at Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation, Mikko Laaksonen  said that the country’s law does not allow bail for someone standing trial for terrorism related offences.

According to Laaksonen, “Finnish criminal procedure/coercive measures do not recognise bail procedure.

“Our procedure is based on, depending on the case, remand or travel ban as coercive measures for limiting freedom of movement for persons suspected of offences to which such measures are applicable.”

Ekpa who has been parading on the social media as the Prime Minister of Biafra was arrested by Finish authorities and subsequently charged to court on November 21, 2024 on charges of terrorism financing and inciting violence.

Ekpa has been accused of inciting violence in Southeast Nigeria that has led to several deaths as well as the sit-at-home orders that have crippled the economy of the region.

He was arrested in 2023 by Finish authorities but no charges were preferred against him.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has also announced that it was monitoring proceedings on the trial of Mr. Ekpa.
