The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Sylvester Nwakuche as the new Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
His confirmation came after the presentation of a report by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior, Senator Adams Oshiomhole.

While presenting the committee’s findings, Oshiomhole stated that Nwakuche was thoroughly screened and deemed suitable for the role, citing his impressive qualifications and the absence of any petitions challenging his competence.
In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated Nwakuche on his appointment and charged him with tackling the persistent issue of jailbreaks across the country.
Sylvester Nwakuche is a seasoned corrections officer with decades of experience in the Nigerian Correctional Service. Rising through the ranks, he has held various leadership positions and played key roles in policy formulation and security reforms within the system. His expertise spans inmate rehabilitation, security management, and organizational restructuring, making him well-suited to steer the service toward enhanced efficiency and safety.
Nwakuche’s appointment is expected to bring fresh strategies to address the challenges facing the correctional system, particularly in curbing jailbreaks and improving inmate welfare.
