The Senate has confirmed Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio at resumption of plenary on Wednesday read a letter from President Bola Tinubu nominating the Supreme Court jurist for the highest judicial office in Nigeria.
As she was being screened, Justice Kekere-Ekun, a native of Lagos State told the Senate that she was known for integrity and that she will uphold high standards and ensure that corruption does not thrive.
“I am known for integrity and discipline, I will ensure zero tolerance for corruption,” she told the Senate.
The new CJN had arrived the Senate hallowed Chamber at exactly 12.30pm after the Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele moved a motion for the Senate to alter its legislative duties for the day to allow the jurist inside the chamber.
Justice Kekere -Ekun was accompanied by several justices of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.
The screening which commenced by 12.40pm and lasted till 2.42 pm.
