DEVELOPING STORY: Sanusi Lamido Sanusi ‘Reinstated’ as Emir of Kano
The ousted Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has been reportedly reinstated as the Emir of Kano.
The reinstatement of the prominent traditional ruler follows the repeal of the law splitting the Kano Emirate into four by the Kano State House of Assembly.
In a report by the LEADERSHIP newspaper, the law enacted in 2019 by the Kano State parliament was effectively repealed at the House plenary on Friday bringing to a close the “splinter” emirates created under the government of the immediate past governor of the Northwest state, Abdulahi Umar Ganduje.
The Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, on Thursday sponsored the Bill to amend the 20219 law.
Speaking to journalists after the House’s sitting on Thursday, the lawmaker was quoted to have said that “the bill has been sent to the governor for assent, now there is no longer an active Emir in Kano in all the five Emirates; Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye. The law now provides the governor to call on the traditional kingmakers to choose a new king.”
There was, however, no official confirmation from the government of Kano State at press time.
