The former rivers state Governor Rotimi Ameachi has said that the fight between the former Governor and the correct FCT minister Nyesom Wike and the current Governor of Rivers state Siminalayi Fubara is about sharing money
Ameachi who stated this during an interview with DW Africa on friday also criticized the emergency rule in the state said the president acted outside the Constitution.
“section 188 state how a Governor can leave office either by death, by resignation or by impeachment.”
He said if the issue is not about money both party should come and address the nation of what the problem is.

He further criticized the public for their apparent indifference to corruption, saying, “Nigerians don’t dislike corruption again.
“Nigerians don’t dislike corruption again,
I’ve not seen anybody on the street querying what the problem is. Can both of them speak to the public and tell us what the quarrel is about?”
Amaechi also addressed the legal aspects of the situation, particularly regarding President Bola Tinubu’s recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. He pointed to Section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution, which stipulates that a governor can only leave office through death, resignation, or impeachment. According to Amaechi, the president acted outside the Constitution by removing Fubara from office and suspending the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Beyond the immediate crisis, Amaechi suggested that the power struggle in Rivers State is part of a broader political strategy. He warned that the actions of the federal government might be aimed at intimidating governors ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The president wants a power grab. They want to frighten governors who may not support them in 2027,” he said. His statement highlights the growing tension between the federal government and state governors, particularly those who may oppose Tinubu’s administration in future elections.
