Rivers Commissioner of Education Resigns Again, Says Work Environment Now ‘Toxic’

As the political crisis in Rivers State continues to fester, a new twist has been added as the state’s Commissioner for Education, Professor Prince Chinedu Mmom delivered his resignation letter from Governor Sim Fubara’s cabinet on Wednesday morning.

The former commissioner is one of the staunch allies of the Minister of the Federal Capoital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike.

In his resignation letter dated May 15, 2023, Professor Mmom  said that the work environment has become “toxic” and that according to him may not allow him concentrate and deliver on his mandate.

The former commissioner had earlier resigned, but was recalled after the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.

Prof, Mmom, however, thanked Gov Fubara for the opportunity he gave him to serve the people of Rivers State.

The resignation letter read:

“It is a truism that a calm, safe and friendly environment would stimulate efficient service delivery and enhanced productivity.

“It is however unfortunate to note that my current work space has become toxic and no longer guarantees a favourable environment to enable me realize my set targets for the Education sector in the State.

“There is loss of trust, animosity and sharp division among colleagues in the same cabinet which is unhealthy and very unfortunate.

“I want to thank Your Excellency for the opportunity to serve in your cabinet and wish your administration well

Kindly accept the assurances of my esteemed regards.”
