Pro-Wike Ex LGA Chairman Defy Police, Protest in Rivers, Insist they Remain in Office

21 out of the 23 former local government chairmen in Rivers State whose tenure expired last week on Monday openly pretested across the state despite the advice from the police that no one should embark on any form of public protest. The state’s police high command hard issued an advisory dissuading residents from embarking on protests to avoid violent escalation of the political crisis in the state.

The former LGA bosses are those loyal to former governor of the state, Mr. Nyesom Wike.

Journalists observed that the former LGA bosses mobilized their supporters and marched along their various local government secretariats chanting songs eulogizing Wike and disparaging the current governor of the state, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara.

Asari-Toru LGA, the former Chairman Onengiyeofori George was seen marching with his supporters at council headquarters in Buguma.

The protesters waved placards, some of the placards reads: “Sim Fubara Can’t Continue to Act As He Likes” and “There’s No Vacancy in Asari-Toru Council.”

More on the protests coming.
