President Tinubu Thanks CBN Special Investigator as He Submits Final Report
President Bola Tinubu on Sunday commended Mr. Jim Obazee, the Special Investigator engaged by the President to look into the transactions and activities of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in the last few years.
Obaze, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC) who was appointed on July 28, 2023 by President Tinubu, barely one months after the President’s inauguration to investigate the CBN amidst reports of malfeasance under then Governor of the CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.
The special investigator submitted his final report to the president on Sunday.
Receiving the report on Sunday, President Tinubu thanked the special investigator for his commitment, professionalism and dexterity in handling the national assignment.
Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale stated that President Tinubu was clear in the appointment of the Obaze noting that the President specifically directed that the investigator “ take immediate steps to ensure the strengthening and integrity of crucial government business entities ( GBEs), further block leakages, in CBN, and related CBEs.”
He further recalled that President also told the special investigator that, “You are to investigate the CBN and related entities using a suitably experienced, competent and capable team and work with relevant security and anti-corruption agencies to deliver on this assignment.”
Nigerians are eagerly waiting for the government to make public the findings of the investigator.
Former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele is already standing trial for sundry financial misadventure and corruption.
