Cross River State federal lawmaker, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe has said that he has gotten assurances from President Bola Tinubu on the creation of Ogoja State from present day Cross River State.
Jarigbe made the disclosure at the National Assembly after he officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker who answere questions from journalists at the Senate Press Centre said that, “[on the creation of Ogoja State], I met with the President to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and this issue came up, I had a very positive response. And I assure my people that if one state is going to be created in addition to the existing 36 states , Ogoja State will be the one to be created.”
The lawmaker who dismissed concerns about leaving the PDP also stated that the it “inconsequential” the platform he chooses to serve his people from, but more about the willingness to certify the yearnings of his people.
According to the lawmaker, “It is not about PDP or any other party, it has to do with the willingness to deliver on the dividends of democracy. So it is immaterial and inconsequential to my people. But as it stands today, my movement to the ruling party will even open more doors and opportunities for our people so that is not a problem.”
