President Tinubu Approves Appointment of Atanda Lawal as His New CSO

The Director-General of Nigeria’s Secrete Police,  the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Tosin Ajayi has removed the Chief Security Officer of President Bola Tinubu, Adegoyega Fasasi.

In his place, Mr. Atanda Lawal, a Deputy Director in the service has been appointed as the CSO to the President.

Aso Rock sources say that the removal of Fasasi has the approval of President Bola Tinubu.

It was also gathered that the DSS Dg had officially requested the release of the erstwhile CSO as he is scheduled to attend a senior course in preparation for a due promotion in the service.

Another source within the service also revealed that the replacement of the CSO was a “mere routine” in the service, especially with a new DG trying to rejig the service.

The source recalled that in March 2019 the then President Muhammadu Buhari also approved the request of then DSS DG,  Mr. Yusuf Bichi’s request for the redeployment of his CSO, Bashir Abubakar and accepted Idris Ahmed as replacement.

According to the source, the new helmsman at the DSS will “ordinarily want to send one of his trusted men” to serve as the President’s CSO.

He noted that as a routine security issue, there was no cause for alarm as it is also a public office that anyone who is qualified can as swell serve in the capacity and the public does not “need any explanation.”
