President Raisi Crash: Why We Refused to Help Iran – US Govt
The United States has explained that it declined to assist Iran over the helicopter crash that killed President Ebrahim Raisi on Sunday.
The helicopter, a Bell 212 is manufactured in the United States.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Matthew Miller, Spokesman of the US Department of State said that the US did not respond as it would have responded ordinarily in such a situation.
“We were asked for assistance by the Iranian government. We did make clear to them that we would offer assistance, as we would do in response to any request by a foreign government in this sort of situation.”
“Ultimately, largely for logistical reasons, we were unable to provide that assistance,” Miller told reporters.
After of 16hours of search in a severe weather condition, rescuers finally beheld sight of the charred remains of the Bell 212 helicopter that carried President Raisi, the foreign minister and five other senior government officials including a province governor and a representative of Iranian Supreme ruler, Ayatollah Khamenei.
