Peter Obi, CSOs Protest at National Assembly Over Removal of Electronic Transmission of Votes from Electoral Act
Civil Society Organisations (CSO) and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi on Monday stormed the National Assembly to protest against the plan of the Senate to expunge electronic transmission of votes in the electoral laws in the ongoing amendment of the 2022 Electoral Act.
Obi who joined other Nigerians to speak at the protest urged members of the National Assembly to allow the electronic transmission of election result to be enshrined in the law. The former Anambra State governor noted that Nigerians are ready to accept whatever the outcome of the elections would be, but they must be allowed to vote according to their conscience.

“Allow the election to go through the normal process. Whatever the outcome is, we will accept it. Why introduce confusion after the process?” Obi querried.
The protest, tagged ‘Occupy National Assembly,’ attracted Nigerian youths, pro-democracy activists and social rights campaigners who converged at the main entrance gate of the National Assembly as early as 7am with placards.
Security operatives from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Department of State Services (DSS), were already deployed, but they all stood alert without interfering with the protesters.
