PDP Postpones 103 NEC Meeting Amid Fear of National Convention Shift

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of its earlier scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting meant to finalise plans for its controversial national convention slated to hold in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital in November.

According to a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Debo Ologunagba, the abrupt postponement was due to “recent developments in the party.”

The NEC meeting had earlier been scheduled for October 15, 2025.

Ologunagba’s statement reads, “in view of recent developments in the Party, the National Working Committee (NWC) in exercise of its powers pursuant to Section 29 (2)(b) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017) has at its emergency meeting on Monday, 13th October, 2025 approved the postponement of the 103rd NEC meeting to a new date that will be communicated to members in due course.”

The PDP has been enmeshed in major crises which pundits have attributed to the struggle to control the soul of the party between a “faction” led by the Oyo State governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde and another  led by the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The struggle have also pitted the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike against some leaders of the party.

In the planned convention, Governor Duoye Diri is the Chairman of the Convention’s zoning committee, while Governor Peter of Enugu State is the Secretary of the National Convention Committee.

However, while Governor Peter Mbah is set to defect to the ruling All Progressive Congress on Tuesday (today), October 14, 2025, his Bayelsa State counterpart, Senator Duoye Diri is scheduled to also dump the PDP and join the APC in a yet to be announced in the new week.
