PDP Leadership Crisis: Surprise Awaits Damagun, Sponsors- Dino Melaye

Senator Dino Melaye has hinted that the embattled Acting National Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will soon be “taught a lesson” as the leadership crisis rocking the party continues.

Melaye a former lawmaker and governorship candidate of the party in Kogi State is a strong ally of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement published on his X handle on Monday, the PDP stalwart said, “Damagum, his paymasters will be taught elementary politics 101. The lessons of Port Harcourt and Abuja presidential primaries have not been learnt. It is too early to determine the day at noon. Senator Dino Melaye.”

The PDP Governors Forum led by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State over the weekend met in Jos, Plateau State and gave a matching order to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to ensure convocation of the meeting of the National Executive Committee  (NEC) of the latest by February 2025.

There have been calls for the acting National Chairman to step down and allow someone from the North Central Zone assume office and complete the tenure of Senator Iyorchia Ayu in line with the party constitution.

However, Damagun and members of the NWC have on several occasion sidestepped the convocation of NEC on what some party leaders have called “flimsy” excuses.

The NWC postponed the NEC meeting slated for October 24, 2024 to November 28 on the grounds that they would want to go into the governorship election slated for November 16, 2024.  However, just when party members had thought that the November 28 NEC meeting would hold, the NWC again announced that that the NEC meeting handing postponed indefinitely to allow members attend the burial of the wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor.
